OBITUARY: Rakesh Kumar Bhatnagar

Rakesh Kumar Bhatnagar, associate professor of mathematics at the Greensburg campus, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002.

Bhatnagar had been a member of the mathematics faculty at UPG since August 1988.

He earned his Ph.D. in applied mathematics at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. His area of specialization was fluid mechanics of visco-elastic liquids. He earned his M.A. in mathematics at the University of Delhi, India.

Bhatnagar wrote 54 articles for scientific journals and was the recipient of numerous honors and awards including fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of West Germany, the National Research Council of Canada, and the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center.

A cremation ceremony was held Oct. 12 at Homewood Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
