Pitt, PSC plan workshop
Pitt and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center will host a workshop on biological ion channels — the pathways chemicals travel in cells for functions ranging from regulating heartbeat to a body’s reaction to anesthesia.
The May 21-23 workshop will be held in Mellon Institute. It will feature 18 internationally renowned experts who will discuss experimental and computational aspects of protein channel science and lead discussions of outstanding problems concerning mechanisms of channel assembly, ion permeation through open channels, and channel gating. The workshop is sponsored by Pitt’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences and medical school, the National Center for Research Resources, and PSC’s Biomedical Initiative.
