RST dept. wins affirmative action award

At Senate Council June 13, Chancellor Mark Nordenberg announced the winner of the annual Chancellor’s Affirmative Action Award, which recognizes an individual or outstanding University program area that has made a significant contribution in affirmative action.

The Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology (RST) in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences was honored for “the many contributions the department has made to ensure that those with disabilities have the opportunity to fully participate in University life, as well as in the larger community,” Nordenberg stated.

In addition to being internationally recognized as a premiere center of research and rehabilitation technology, RST has been instrumental in launching a campus-wide disability initiative focusing on the inclusion of disability issues on research projects, curricular reviews and development, policy studies, presentations and social events, Nordenberg told Senate Council.

RST chair Rory A. Cooper accepted the award on behalf of his department.

The award includes a $2,500 prize that will be made in the form of a budget augmentation to RST.
