Gift collection gets underway for residents of Family House

A group of Pitt students and alums again are joining forces as Santa's little helpers. Since 1992, the Blue and Gold Society, in conjunction with the Alumni Association, has sponsored an annual fund-raiser to benefit the Family House.

The Operation Santa Claus gift drive asks participants to take a tag with a gift wish from Family House residents, purchase the gift (the usual cost is $5-$10), wrap it and return it Dec. 4 or 5 to tables in the William Pitt Union and Towers lobby.

Monetary donations are accepted on those two days as well. Gift tags are available through Dec. 4 at the donation tables.

Family House is an organization that provides low-cost and free housing for patients and their families who come to Pittsburgh seeking medical treatment for life-threatening illnesses. There are four facilities in the Pittsburgh area.

Last year, Operation Santa Claus collected more than 200 gifts from the Pitt community along with a $200 donation for a new picnic table from the Blue and Gold Society and the Alumni Association.

The society is an honorary student group sponsored by the Alumni Association.
