Faculty development award set up in memory of UCSUR staff member

Pitt's University Center for Social and Urban Research (UCSUR) has established faculty development awards in recognition of the contributions of a long-time staff member who died last year.

Two awards of up to $10,000 each will be given annually to honor Steven Manners, who was a researcher and administrator at UCSUR for 26 years. At the time of his death last September, he was assistant director.

UCSUR is Pitt's major survey research center, facilitating interdisciplinary applied and basic research in the social and behavioral sciences.

Full-time faculty can apply for awards in two categories: a research development grant, to support pilot research in the social, behavioral and policy sciences; and an infrastructure development award, aimed at enhancing faculty capabilities to carry out interdisciplinary research in the social, behavioral and policy sciences.

Full-time faculty at all of Pitt's campuses are eligible. Preference will be given to junior faculty; faculty in Arts and Sciences or Provost-area professional schools, and regional campuses.

Applications are due April 16. Awards are expected to be made by June 15. Applicants should send supporting materials to Richard Schulz, UCSUR Director, 121 University Place, Pittsburgh 15260.
