Electrical outage affects 20 buildings

An electrical equipment failure May 11 at the Posvar Hall main circuitry vault caused much of the lower Pittsburgh campus to lose power between 3 and 9 p.m., according to the Office of Facilities Management.

The following buildings were affected by the temporary outage: Posvar Hall, the Law Building, Mervis Hall, William Pitt Union, Litchfield Towers A, B and C, Schenley Quadrangle (Amos, Brackenridge, Bruce, Holland and McCormick halls), Lawrence Hall, Hillman Library, Frick Fine Arts, Cathedral of Learning, Bellefield Hall, Craig Hall, Heinz Chapel and Stephen Foster Memorial.

Although the electrical equipment was stabilized, further work is required, Facilities Management officials said. Over the next month, Facilities Management will schedule temporary outages at the affected buildings.

Occupants will be notified in advance of the dates when the outages will occur.
