UPB to offer radiological science degree

Beginning this fall the Bradford campus will offer a four-year baccalaureate degree in radiological science in partnership with the Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC).

Students will be able to earn a bachelor's in radiological science after taking the required courses at Bradford and completing BRMC's two-year School of Radiography program.

"This is one of the few programs of its kind in western Pennsylvania," said K. James Evans, vice president and dean of student affairs at Bradford. "This new major will enhance Pitt-Bradford's and BRMC's abilities to prepare students for valuable opportunities in growing health care fields."

Ross Horsley, BRMC's diagnostic imaging department medical director, said, "We are pleased to be partnering with Pitt-Bradford and feel confident that our students will benefit in an environment reflecting the highest standards of educational excellence."

BRMC has provided a two-year School of Radiography program for many years to prepare certified professionals to work in clinical settings as radio-graphers. To date, 100 percent of program graduates have passed the certifying exams and have found positions in their profession.

Lisa Fiorentino, assistant professor and director of Pitt-Bradford's nursing department, said: "BRMC's School of Radiography is moving toward a higher level of professional preparation, and we are pleased to be part of the development and education of this health care provider."
