There has been tremendous response by blood donors to this week's tragedies, Pitt Volunteer Pool coordinator Steve Zupcic said. But he noted that the need for blood is expected to continue in the weeks and months ahead.

"In light of this, we encourage all members of the University community to participate in our previously scheduled Central Blood Bank drives on Friday, Sept. 21, and Tuesday, Oct. 16," Zupcic said. "Call Gwen Watkins at 412/624-7702 to schedule an appointment."

Additional University and UPMC blood drives scheduled for next week include:

* Sept. 17, UPMC Presbyterian, 11th floor conference center, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

* Sept. 18, Law, 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

* Sept. 18, Dental Medicine, Salk Hall, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
