UPMC specialists included in "America's Top Doctors"

When physicians around the country were asked, "To whom would you send members of your family?" 65 physicians in 33 specialty areas from Pitt's School of Medicine and hospitals across the UPMC Health System were recommended. These physicians are listed in a recently published book, "America's Top Doctors."

The book identifies leading specialists for the care and treatment of more than 1,700 diseases and medical conditions. Included are physicians from throughout the United States who represent more than 60 medical specialties and subspecialties. The book is published by Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd.

To conduct their survey, Castle Connolly mailed nomination forms to board certified doctors randomly selected in a given area. These anonymous and confidential forms asked physicians to nominate outstanding doctors in various specialties and subspecialties. The publishing company sought nominations of physicians who excel in academic medicine and research and who exhibit excellence in patient care.

Specialties in which UPMC physicians were named include cardiology, dermatology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, infectious disease, maternal and fetal medicine, medical oncology, nephrology, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, otolaryngology, pathology, pediatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation, general surgery, plastic surgery, psychiatry, pulmonary, reproductive endocrinology, rheumatology, orthopaedic surgery, neurological surgery, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery and urology.

Castle Connolly Medical, Ltd. is a research and information company established to help people find the best health care. It provides health care consumers with information to identify the top physicians in their communities.
