A Pitt snapshot

U.S. News and World Report’s 2006 “best colleges” edition also features “your school at a glance” quick facts, including a breakdown of the undergraduate student body.

At Pitt, 85 percent of students come from Pennsylvania; 87 percent of students reside in the U.S. northeast; 88 percent of students are full-time; 52 percent of students are female (total women: 8,947; men, 8,234); 85 percent of undergrads are white, 9 percent African American, 4 percent Asian American, with 1 percent Hispanic and 1 percent international.

Twenty percent of Pitt students currently receive Pell Grants. The percentage of students who live in on-campus housing is 44 percent. The average age of full-time students is 21, with 6 percent 25 or older. Eight percent of undergrads are members of fraternities, while 7 percent have joined sororities, according to the magazine.
