Observatory plans open house
The Allegheny Observatory will hold its annual open house 7-10 p.m. Sept. 23. The deadline for registration is Sept. 16. The event is free, but reservations are required: 412/321-2400.
Open house is the only time when the observatory’s research instrument, the 30-inch Thaw refractor, is available to the public. Visitors also will be shown a slide presentation and may take a self-guided tour of the observatory. The Amateur Astronomer’s Association of Pittsburgh also will set up telescopes on the lawn for public viewing of the skies.
