Topping Off

hand

The Graduate School of Public Health marked a construction milestone with a “topping off” ceremony at the University Club. Guests at the May 3 event signed the final construction beam for GSPH’s new four-story laboratory pavilion, part of an expansion and renovation project that will add 58,000 square feet of laboratory space and a 215-seat auditorium. Construction of the new pavilion is expected to be complete in fall 2013; the project’s second phase, renovation of Parran and Crabtree halls, is targeted for completion in 2016.

Below, former GSPH dean Bernard D. Goldstein and the son and grandson of Pitt researcher and polio vaccine discoverer Jonas Salk prepare to add their names to the beam. From left are Goldstein, GSPH capital campaign chair; honorary capital campaign chair and president of the Jonas Salk Legacy Foundation Peter L. Salk, and his son, Michael Salk.
