Changes in bus routes & schedules planned

Schedules and routes are being adjusted for 17 buses starting June 10. The Port Authority of Allegheny County said it adjusts schedules four times per year to improve service.

Buses that serve Oakland with adjustments starting next month include:

• 52L Homeville Limited: Trip times will change.

• 53 Homestead Park: Trip times will change. Several weekday and most Saturday outbound trips will no longer serve Walmart.

• 53L Homestead Park Limited: Trip times will change. 53L now will serve all the same stops as 52L along common routing on the Boulevard of the Allies, Panther Hollow Road, Greenfield Road and Beechwood Boulevard.

• 67 Monroeville: Bus will be rerouted to serve the new UPMC East Monroeville facility, which is expected to open in July.

• 81 Oak Hill: Trip times will change. A detour due to the Elmore Square demolition will affect routing permanently.

• P69 Trafford Flyer: The trip that originates at Penn Station at 5:05 p.m. will be shifted to 5:10 p.m.

Other affected routes include: 6 Spring Hill, 8 Perrysville, 14 Ohio Valley, 16 Brighton, 18 Manchester, 44 Knoxville, 48 Arlington, 51 Carrick, 74 Homewood-Squirrel Hill, G2 West Busway-All Stops and Y46 Elizabeth Flyer.

Due to a $64 million operating budget shortfall for fiscal year 2013, the largest service reductions in the Port Authority’s 50-year history were approved by its board on April 27 to go into effect Sept. 2.

Under the service reduction plan, 46 of the 102 current routes will be eliminated with service scaled back on the remaining routes.

Service after 10 p.m. will be eliminated on all but 13 routes.
