Fitness for Life clinics announced

As part of Pitt’s Fitness for Life program, faculty and staff (and their spouses or partners) who are enrolled in a UPMC Health Plan are eligible for a month’s waiver of their health insurance premium next July if they undergo a simple blood panel test before March 31. (Dependent children covered by Pitt’s medical insurance plans are not required to have blood drawn for their parents to be eligible for the waiver.)

UPMC Health Plan enrollees can earn the waiver by scheduling an appointment with their physician or at one of the on-campus clinics listed below.

Health care professionals from UPMC will administer the required blood panels in the form of a “finger stick,” and, for interested parties, also will provide body mass index measurements, carbon monoxide tests and related counseling.

For accurate results, participants should not eat or drink anything except water for 12 hours before their appointment. Participants should bring their UPMC insurance cards, which will identify the physician to whom the results will be sent. Spouses and partners also may participate in an on-site screening.

The blood screenings are free, but participants must make an appointment by calling 888/553-8762. All clinics are open 7-11 a.m.
