A series of nine three-day training seminars for police officers is being offered by the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs.

One track of six seminars will focus on general issues faced by all law enforcement personnel and the other track of three seminars will center on management concerns.

Instructors will include faculty from Pitt and other institutions, law enforcement professionals and elected officials.

Coordinated by the Police Training and Development Unit in GSPIA's Office of Executive Education, the 2002 Police Issues Training Series opens tomorrow, Jan. 25, with "Law Enforcement Response to Terrorism."

This course deals with the threat of domestic terrorism in the United States. A history of terrorism — including cyberterrorism, a detailed discussion of the responses available to law enforcement, profiles of terrorist organizations and individuals and the psychological aspects of terrorism — will be covered.

Subsequent topics in the general issues training series include forensic investigations, interviewing and interrogating, technology in law enforcement, school violence and troubled police departments. The target audience comprises mid-level supervisory police officers currently working in law enforcement.

Topics for the police management series are command operations procedures and police labor relations, issues in police administration and command accountability/leadership for police supervisors. These sessions are geared toward command staff and mid-level supervisory police officers currently working in law enforcement.
