Bradford alumni group creates scholarship

Pitt's Bradford campus Alumni Association (PBAA) has established a scholarship to honor alumnus Dennis Lowery for his longstanding service to the college and its alumni.

The PBAA/Dennis Lowery Scholarship was established with a $5,000 gift from Tom Williams, who attended Pitt-Bradford from 1964 to 1965, and his wife, Doris. The Williamses' gift will be matched by the Reed-Coit Scholarship Challenge, which matches gifts totaling at least $1,000. The challenge was made possible by a $1 million bequest by Dorothy Reed, who died last May.

The PBAA/Dennis Lowery Scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate students, with preference given to those students whose parents/legal guardians, siblings or other family members are alumni of Pitt-Bradford.

Lowery attended Bradford from 1963 to 1965 as a member of UPB's first class and graduated from the Pittsburgh campus in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in business management. He is the director of properties and facilities at Northwest Savings Bank in Warren. He was named the first interim president of the alumni association in April 1993 and was the first Pitt-Bradford alumni representative to serve on the University's Alumni Association Board, from 1993 to 1994. He was the first recipient of the PBAA Distinguished Volunteer Award in 1999.

Tom Williams is a member of the PBAA board of directors and chairman of the PBAA's scholarship committee.
