Obituary: Ludmila Doroshkevich

LudaLudmila Doroshkevich, supervisor of the Network Operations Center (NOC) network engineering team for Computing Services and Systems Development (CSSD), died Sept. 24, 2012.

She was 31.

Doroshkevich and her twin sister Vita were born in Ukraine on Jan. 8,1981, the oldest of 13 children.  Their family came to the United States in the early 1990’s.

Luda, as her family and friends called her, graduated from Monessen High School and began attending Pitt in 2000.

In 2001, she was hired by CSSD to work as a residential consultant, a position she held until she graduated in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering. While she was a student she also worked in the Computing Lab.

Doroshkevich was hired in May 2004 as a full-time employee of CSSD as a NOC monitor. The following April, she was promoted to NOC network engineer.

In January 2007, she was promoted to supervisor of the NOC network engineering team.

Louis Passarello, NOC assistant director, was Doroshkevich’s supervisor.

“Luda had a profound impact at the Network Operations Center,” Passarello said. “No matter what was asked of her, she would always help regardless of the time of day, regardless of the effort and regardless of personal sacrifice.

“Her skills, her work ethic and her helpfulness were seen and depended on by her peers and by many throughout the University.  It was always a pleasure to work with Luda — she truly treated everyone as family.”

Doroshkevich is survived by her parents, Vladimir and Kate Doroshkevich; and siblings Vita, Oksana, Natalia, Alexander, Alla, Vitaly, Esther, Rebekah, Nathaniel and David Doroshkevich.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Enna and Leah Doroshkevich.
