ELI accredited for 5 years
Pitt's English Language Institute (ELI) was recently accredited for five years by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation.
National accreditation of intensive English as a second language programs is new in the United States, and Pitt's English Language Institute is among the first 30 such programs to be accredited.
ELI is part of the University's Department of Linguistics.
Alan Juffs, linguistics chairperson and ELI director, said: "The ELI feels that the accreditation of intensive English programs is an important step for the field of English as a second language, as it demonstrates recognized educational standards for language teaching professionals and language programs."
