SAC to fill officer position next month

The Staff Association Council (SAC) will fill the office of vice president for communications next month in a special election.

SAC vice president for communications Audrey Portis, who had been serving out the term vacated by a retiring staff member, has left the University. The position will be filled next month during a special election, said Elizabeth Homonai, chair of the elections committee. The president, vice president for steering and treasurer have one year remaining in their two-year terms.

In other business at the May 8 meeting, SAC heard reports from its committees and announced plans for upcoming events.

Committee reports

* SAC has raised $1,800 for the SAC children of staff book fund, according to Tammeka Beattie, SAC treasurer. Beattie said that SAC was working on a date and procedures for awarding the money to children of staff during the fall.

* Angela Peskie of the salary and job classification committee said she would pursue complaints with Human Resources that resumes submitted by staff transfer applicants were not always being forwarded to the departments with job openings.

* Ann Ostroski, chair of the safety and security committee, is working with Pitt's parking and transportation office and the campus police to gather information that she expects to share with PennDOT in order to improve signage, and road and pedestrian traffic safety on the Pittsburgh campus.

SAC activities

* The annual Pitt-Kennywood Day will be July 27. Tickets will go on sale at the William Pitt Union (WPU) Ticket Office May 31 – July 26. Costs are $12.50 per person (discounted from Kennywood's regular price of $27.95) for all-day ride passes, or $5 for general admission.

Employees can purchase a meal ticket at $11 for an all-you-can-eat buffet. Meal tickets must be purchased at 925 WPU.

* Several SAC members, including officers, will attend the annual council of campuses June 5 and 6 on the Bradford campus. The council brings together members of the staff councils from the five campuses.

* July 31 will be the SAC new members orientation lunch.

* The second SAC-sponsored fall crafts and flea market will be held Sept. 14 on campus.

* SAC announced the availability of discounts of up to $5 per ticket for each of the remaining three productions of the Pittsburgh CLO season. For more information, call 4-4236.
