Clark named vice chancellor of community, governmental relations

The head of Pitt's Office of Community and Governmental Relations was promoted last week by Chancellor Mark Nordenberg.

G. Reynolds Clark, formerly executive director, now is vice chancellor for community and governmental relations. Reynolds heads the office responsible for managing Pitt's interactions with federal, state and local governments and community organizations.

In announcing the move June 20, Nordenberg said, "This appointment reflects the high levels of commitment and effectiveness that have characterized Mr. Clark's service as executive director; the importance of community and governmental relations to the University of Pittsburgh, and the successes Mr. Clark has enjoyed in putting together a strong team to support him in this important work."

Reynolds told the University Times that "there will be no changes in the office or the way we do our jobs as a result of this title change. This recognition is in response to the importance of the entire department and the recognition of an outstanding staff's team effort."

Clark came to Pitt following a 33-year career at the former Westinghouse Electric Corp., where his responsibilities as chair of the Westinghouse Foundation included corporate services and community affairs programs. He also served as executive director of Westinghouse's staff service functions, managing the executive headquarters building, research center facilities, corporate aircraft and corporate security.

Clark holds a B.A. in speech from Geneva College, from which he received the alumni association's Distinguished Service Award in 1990. He serves on Geneva's board of trustees and is co-chair of the campaign steering committee for its $40-million capital campaign.
