Pitt schools, programs place high in ranking

Several Pitt schools and programs have placed high in the 2013 QS World University Rankings by Subject, a ranking of the world’s top 200 universities by Quacquarelli Symonds, which provides educational/career information and networking opportunities.

  • Philosophy: Pitt was ranked No. 2 among all U.S. public universities; No. 5 among all U.S. universities; No. 7 among all universities worldwide.
  • Medicine: Pitt was ranked No. 7 among all U.S. public universities; No. 18 among all U.S. universities; No. 41 among all universities worldwide.
  • Pharmacy and pharmacology: Pitt was ranked No. 8 among all U.S. public universities; No. 13 among all U.S. universities; No. 43 among all universities worldwide.
  • Law: Pitt was ranked No. 12 among U.S. public universities and No. 29 among all U.S. universities.
  • In politics and international studies, Pitt was No. 14 among U.S. public universities and No. 34 among all U.S. universities.

Quacquarelli Symonds launched the annual world university rankings by subject in 2011 to document the comparative quality of institutions in individual subject disciplines. These rankings are derived from three datasets: academic reputation; employer reputation, and citations per faculty member.

More than 2,500 universities were evaluated; 678 universities were ranked.
