A team from Pitt and Michigan State University has been awarded a prize for accounting ethics for their paper "Behavioral Assumptions and Firm Profitability in Budgeting Models."

The $10,000 Glen McLaughlin Prize for Research in Accounting Ethics went to Pitt professors John H. Evans III, R. Lynn Hannah and Donald V. Moser and Michigan state professor Ranjani Krishnan.

The McLaughlin prize was established by the University of Oklahoma's Michael F. Price College of Business and School of Accounting alumnus Glen McLaughlin to recognize and encourage educational and research activities focusing on ethical issues associated with the production and dissemination of financial information.

Heidi Mackowski has been promoted to the new position of director of conference services and special events on the Bradford campus.

Mackowski will oversee the Office of Conference Services, which consists of reservations, camps, conferences and special events. Her duties will include the coordination and supervision of large institutional events, institutional project management and special projects such as honors convocation and commencement.

Kathy Hays, director of inpatient services at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, has received a 50th anniversary commemorative award from the Leukemia Society of America. Recipients are chosen for their contributions to cure leukemia or to improve the quality of life for patients and their families experiencing the disease.

Hays was recognized for her plan to educate and hire patient service managers to manage patient care issues for all chapters of the Leukemia Society of America. This project, which took three years to complete, provides leukemia patients with information, assistance and access to the resources of the Leukemia Society.

Kevin Ewert, assistant professor of theatre at the Bradford campus, has been recognized by the newsweekly In Pittsburgh as the director of the best stage production in Pittsburgh last year.

The Unseam'd Shakespeare Company presented "Corio-lanus" in August under Ewert's direction. In Pittsburgh called the production "the most compelling show of the year" and said Ewert "showed a deep understanding of Shakespeare and a marked affinity for breathing contemporary relevance into a classical text."
