Hershey, MacLeod vie for Senate presidency

The election for University Senate president for 2000-2001 will pit incumbent Nathan Hershey against his predecessor as president, Gordon MacLeod. Both are professors in the Graduate School of Public Health (GSPH).

Hershey has been Senate president for the last two years. He succeeded MacLeod, who served for one year and opted not to run for re-election in order to prepare to be academic dean on the fall 1999 Semester at Sea voyage.

For Senate vice president, incumbent Carol K. Redmond, also of GSPH, is running against Sean Hughes of the education school.

Candidates for secretary are Elizabeth A. Evans (University Library System), Audrey J. Murrell (Katz Graduate School of Business) and Elizabeth A. Schlenk (nursing school).

Ballots, which will include candidates for Faculty Assembly as well as the three Senate officer positions, will be mailed to faculty in early April. The deadline for returning completed ballots to the University Senate office, 1234 Cathedral of Learning, will be April 21.
