Kresge funds new product incubator lab

Kresge funds new product incubator lab

The Kresge Foundation has awarded a $250,000 grant to fund a lab in the School of Engineering's New Product Incubator. The foundation also will donate an additional $250,000 if the school raises $1.2 million in endowment funds for maintenance of the facility.

The grant will fund the Kresge Rapid Manufacturing Laboratory, a facility enabling students to take part in the complete product development cycle, from design, to prototype manufacture, to constructing small batches of a new product. The Kresge lab is expected to open in August.

Pitt is believed to be the first engineering school in the country to offer the complete form of learning in new product development.
