FY1997 giving to Pitt increases 31.4 percent
Total giving to Pitt during the fiscal year that ended June 30 was up by 31.4 percent over the previous year — from $41.6 million in FY 1995-96 to $54.7 million last year.
Alumni giving increased by 49.2 percent, from $5.4 million to $8 million, while contributions from trustees soared by 98 percent, from $239,654 to $474,463.
Chancellor Mark Nordenberg reported the numbers at the Oct. 23 Board of Trustees meeting.
Nordenberg also announced three recent gifts to endow professorships in the schools of business, engineering and medicine.
Samuel McCullough, secretary of the state Department of Community and Economic Development and a Pitt trustee, contributed $1 million to create an endowed professorship in finance in the Katz Graduate School of Business.
Gerald E. McGinnis, chairman of Respironics, Inc., gave $1.5 million to establish an endowed professorship in bioengineering.
Pitt trustee Howard Love, retired chief executive officer of National Intergroup, Inc., gave $1.5 million to endow a professorship in neurology in the medical school.
