SHRS faculty member places in NYC marathon

marathon.molineroAshli Molinero, faculty member in the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, won second place among women hand-cyclists competing in the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon, held Nov. 2.

Her time of 2 hours, 7 minutes and 30 seconds—2 minutes and 45 seconds behind the winner—was achieved on a course of 23.2 miles, shortened slightly due to high winds.

Molinero is part of a consortium of two dozen local adaptive-sports groups that formed the Pittsburgh Adaptive Sports Network in June, led by Jason Miller, assistant director of intramurals here, and Larry Gioia of Dynamic Paddlers. Also involved in the network are Marilyn Ross, director of Pitt Intramurals and Recreation, and Sam Vescovi, recreational sports coordinator.

Molinero previously completed the Pittsburgh, Gettysburg, New York and Los Angeles marathons, finishing in third place for women in the latter two.
