Christmas at Pitt
Teaming with Sodexo and the Salvation Army, the University served more than 2,300 Christmas meals at the ninth annual Christmas at Pitt in Litchfield Towers — the biggest one yet.
According to Kannu Sahni, director of Community Relations, 210 volunteers from Pitt joined 40 from the University’s dining service company, Sodexo, to provide meals to local residents invited by the Salvation Army from organizations that serve those in need.
Departments and schools collected new socks, hats, scarves and gloves, resulting in more than 1,000 gift bags for attendees. They also contributed hundreds of new holiday gifts for children.
Christmas Day at Pitt served 800 pounds of turkey, 510 pounds of yams, 500 pounds each of ham and mashed potatoes, 300 pounds each of green beans and corn, 110 gallons of eggnog and 2,000 dinner rolls.
