Thornburgh to address honors convocation
Former Pennsylvania Governor Richard Thornburgh will be the keynote speaker at Pitt's 22nd annual honors convocation on Feb. 27.
The convocation, which recognizes the achievements of faculty, students, staff and alumni, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall.
Thornburgh was elected governor in 1978 and served two consecutive terms. After leaving the governor's office, he spent a year on the faculty at Harvard's JFK Institute of Politics. In 1988, he was appointed U.S. attorney general, a post he held until 1991. During 1992 he served as undersecretary general of the United Nations.
Since 1993, Thornburgh has been in private law practice with Kirkpatrick & Lockhart.
An academic procession in full regalia will open honors convocation. Persons planning to join the procession are asked to contact the Office of Special Events, 624-7100.
