GSPH launches award-winning website with info on HIV/AIDS

The Pennsylvania Prevention Project at the Graduate School of Public Health has launched an award-winning website for individuals, physicians, health care workers and anyone interested in finding out more about HIV and AIDS. The project won best website for health education and promotion at the 1997 National Health Association Conference.

The website ‹ http://www.stophiv.com – is the only comprehensive on-line resource directory for HIV/AIDS information in Pennsylvania, and provides access to the more than 1,250 HIV/AIDS-related agencies and organizations statewide. The website homepage registers about 400 hits per week, providing information on education and prevention, health care services, support groups, screening and testing, financial assistance and transportation services available for HIV-infected residents of Pennsylvania.

In addition, individuals with HIV or AIDS and anyone whose life has been touch by AIDS are invited to share their stories on-line anonymously. Research indicates that hearing or reading a personal account of HIV/AIDS is an effective strategy for prevention. Several new features of the website are under construction, including a page written by young adults for young adults, a chat line, a bulletin board and a page with research and treatment news.
