Schenley Hotel memorabilia sought

The William Pitt Union, formerly the Schenley Hotel, is celebrating its centennial anniversary this fall. The Office of Student Activities is planning a variety of events Sept. 27-Oct. 3 to commemorate the history of the Oakland landmark, which once served as the premier hotel in the area and boasted guests such as Babe Ruth, Diamond Jim Brady, Enrico Caruso and the famous Italian actress Eleanor Duse, who died while staying at the hotel.

Student Affairs will create an exhibition of memorabilia, such as keys, photos, menus, and "borrowed" towels, ashtrays and silverware. Anyone willing to contribute to the exhibit should send relevant memorabilia to Joyce Giangarlo, associate director, Office of Student Activities, 140 William Pitt Union, Pittsburgh 15260; phone: 648-7830; e-mail: jmg4+@pitt.edu

Memorabilia can be submitted through the end of August and will be returned, if requested.
