Pitt staff, faculty volunteer for UW's "Day of Caring"
Pitt faculty and staff kicked off the annual Pitt-United Way campaign yesterday, Sept. 13, by volunteering their services at nine community projects scattered throughout Allegheny County.
Outfitted in complimentary "Day of Caring/Pitt Volunteer" T-shirts, the faculty and staff volunteers painted homes, cleaned graffiti, planted flower beds and repacked bulk food for local food banks, among many other activities.
Groups that benefited from the Day of Caring included the Boys and Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania, Habitat for Humanity, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Fairywood Healthplace, Community Human Services, the Methodist Union of Social Agencies and the Frick Park.
Day of Caring planners were Steve Zupcic and Terrence Milani of Pitt's Center for Public and Community Service.
