Harris-Schenz named vice provost

Beverly Harris-Schenz has been named vice provost for faculty affairs, effective Jan. 1, 1996.

Harris-Schenz, associate professor and director of language studies in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences since 1991, will replace Vijai Singh, who recently joined Mark Nordenberg's staff as interim associate chancellor.

Harris-Schenz, who specializes in German, has been a Pitt faculty member since 1974. She served as assistant dean in the College of Arts and Sciences from 1980 to 1985, and is a recipient of the Chancellor's Distinguished Teaching Award.

In making the announcement, Provost James Maher said: "Dr. Harris-Schenz has an outstanding reputation both as a teacher and as an organizer of instructional activities and curriculum development. She is the ideal person to create a supportive atmosphere for the faculty to develop their teaching and research careers."
