Herberman named to Health Science post

Ronald Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), has been appointed Pitt associate vice chancellor for research, Health Sciences. In the newly created job, Herberman will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating biomedical scientific research programs at the University. Thomas Detre, senior vice chancellor for Health Sciences, said in a written statement: "As a distinguished senior scientist, Dr. Herberman understands the importance of advancing medical knowledge by encouraging broad, multidisciplinary efforts among basic and clinical investigators. His demonstrated success in achieving this for UPCI makes him the ideal person to carry out analogous efforts across the health sciences at the University and to ensure that the UPMC [University of Pittsburgh Medical Center] continues to play a leading national role in these endeavors."
