Agreement makes it easier for CCAC students to transfer here

Pitt and the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) have concluded an articulation agreement that makes it easier for students from CCAC to transfer into Pitt's College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).

The agreement specifies the courses that CCAC students can take to satisfy the general education requirements of CAS.

CCAC students who earn a grade of C or better in each of the specified courses and who maintain a cumulative QPA of 2.5 or better will be accepted into CAS as juniors. They also will be able to earn an associate degree from CCAC before transferring to Pitt.

"This agreement represents a joint effort on the part of both institutions and it reflects a national trend toward regularizing the relationship between two- and four-year institutions," Pitt Provost James Maher said in a written statement. "Those CCAC students wishing to continue their education at Pitt will clearly benefit from this arrangement." CCAC President John Kingsmore said in a prepared statement: "As higher education has become more expensive, it is essential that all segments work together to give access to all of our students. This agreement can help reduce the cost of quality education to the citizens of southwest Pennsylvania." The articulation agreement became effective with the start of the fall term. Approximately 1,000 CCAC students transfer to Pitt each year.
