Francis (Frank) L. Tosatto

Francis (Frank) L. Tosatto, 57, director of plant maintenance at Pitt's Greensburg campus (UPG), died June 16 of a heart attack while returning to his home in New Kensington from a family trip to Ohio.

Tosatto served as director of UPG's plant maintenance department for 11 years. He was instrumental in both developing the campus's plant maintenance program and the daily operations of the physical plant.

Among the UPG projects in which Tosatto played a major role were the Faculty Office Building, Student Center, Millstein Library, Robertshaw Hall, the College Hall residence halls and the conversion of Powers Hall from a library to classrooms. "Frank was a very important member of the Greensburg campus administration," said UPG Vice President for Administration Guy Rossetti. "He was both a colleague and a friend to all of us. He will be greatly missed." Born in Wichita, Kan., on Nov. 17, 1938, Tosatto retired from the U.S. Navy in 1985 as a lieutenant commander.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his mother, Lucy, of Wichita; four sons, Anthony, of Los Angeles; Michael, of the Bahamas; Frank, of San Diego, Calif., and Robert, of Birmingham, Ala.; two daughters, Debbie Driscoll, of Ada, Ohio, and Desiree Sullivan, of Natrona Heights; 11 grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph, of Hinckley, Ohio, and Donald, of Santa Barbara, Calif., and a sister, Emma Jean Jones, of Wichita.

Tosatto's family has established a scholarship at the Greensburg campus in his memory. Contributions can be sent to the Francis L. Tosatto Memorial Scholarship fund, c/o Guy Rossetti, University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, 15601. Acknowledgments of donations will be sent to the Tosatto family.
