Free treatment available for depression

Free treatment for depression is available for persons between the ages of 18 and 60 through a study at Pitt's Depression Treatment and Research Center. Eligible participants will receive up to 24 weeks of outpatient treatment at no cost.

Depressed individuals may have crying spells, sleep disturbances, changes in appetite, decreased interest in pleasurable activities, feelings of worthlessness, and problems with memory and concentration.

As part of the study, participants will undergo biological evaluations of their sleep, hormones and neurological changes before and after treatment. These evaluations may give researchers insights into the biological changes that signal recovery from depression. Such insights may lead to more effective ways of matching individuals with the most effective anti-depressant treatments.
