VOLUNTEER POOL

Paint Your Heart Out Pittsburgh Saturday, Sept. 10, 8 a.m. to ? Teams of professional and amateur painters will help paint the homes of elderly and low income families in Pittsburgh. Usually each team has things wrapped up by 2 p.m. Volunteers are welcome even if they can only work for part of the day. Volunteers will receive lunch, refreshments, a T-shirt, a ticket to a Pirate game and tailgate party.

Beginning With Books’ Read Together Training Session

Saturday, Sept. 10, 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Beginning With Books’ Read Together matches children, ages 3 to 10, whose parents or grandparents are in adult reading programs, with volunteers who read to them one-on-one in Pittsburgh neighborhood public libraries as well as the main library in Oakland. Volunteers need to make a six-month commitment to read for 1 to 1 1/2 hours once or twice a week. Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank — Green Harvest Saturday, Sept. 17, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank is working with a farm in Worthington (about 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh). Volunteers will be picking crops that will be processed and distributed to the area food banks. Lunch will be provided.

The Great Race Sunday, Sept. 25, 7-11 a.m.

Again this year the Great Race will include a 5 kilometer run that will start on campus near the Towers. Pitt will coordinate the start of the 5K race. Volunteers are needed to help register runners and distribute water.

Alzheimer Memory Walk Saturday, October 1, 7:30-11:30 a.m. Volunteers are needed to assist with this 6-mile walk. Responsibilities will include registering walkers. The event takes place at Schenley Oval. Volunteers will receive a T-shirt.

American Heart Walk Sunday, Oct. 2, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Help is needed to assist participants in their walk around the Highland Park Reservoir. All volunteers will receive a Walk T-shirt. Leukemia Society Chocolate Rendezvous Saturday, Oct. 15, 4-9 p.m.

Volunteers will be passing out free chocolate in Monroeville Mall on behalf of the Leukemia Society.
