PEOPLE OF THE TIMES

Thirty-three physicians from Children's Hospital have been named in "The Best Doctors in America," a publication that recognizes the nation's leading medical practitioners. Inclusion in the publication is based on peer recommendations.

Named were: A. Leland Albright, neurosurgery; Silva Arslaniann, Dorothy Becker, Allan Drash, David Finegold, Thomas Foley, Peter Lee and Mark Sperling, endocrinology; Mark Bellinger, urology; Lee Beerman, F. Jay Fricker, William Neches, Sang Park, Frederick Sherman and J.R. Zuberbuhler, cardiology; Charles Bluestone and Sylvan Stool, otolaryngology; Barbara Brandom and D. Ryan Cook, anesthesiology; Patricia Crum-rine and Michael Painter, neurology; Demetrius Ellis, nephrology; Philip Fireman, allergy and immunology; Margaret McKenna, otolaryngology; Patrick Kochanek, Richard Orr and Ann Thompson, critical care medicine; Joseph Mirro Jr., hematology/oncology; Morey Moreland, orthopedics; Pamela Murray, adolescent medicine; David Orenstein, pulmonology; Marc Rowe, pediatric surgery, and Ellen Wald, infectious diseases. Terry Lucas, business and advertising adviser to The Pitt News, has been named the 1994 Distinguished Four-Year Business Adviser by the college newspaper advisers' professional organization, College Media Adviser, Inc. Lucas will receive the award at the Student Press Convention in New Orleans on Nov. 5.

Janet Moffitt Greene has been named director of the new associate degree program for physical therapists' assistants at Pitt's Titusville campus.

Former manger of rehabilitation services at the Northwest Medical Center of Franklin/Oil City, Greene will be responsible for establishing academic, clinical and support services for the program, as well as program development, recruiting and advising students, supervising clinical placement and teaching.

Karen VanderVen, professor of social work, has been awarded the Albert E. Trieschman Memorial Award of the National Organization of Child Care Workers Association for her "distinguished contribution to the profession of child and youth work." Kenneth Service has been appointed director of communications. Service comes to Pitt from the Duquesne Light Co., where he served as director of corporate communications for seven years. He will be responsible for Pitt's local, state and national media relations. Service replaces Tim Ziaukas, who resigned his post as director of communications June 30 to become an instructor of communications and public relations at Pitt's Bradford campus.

Marc D. Feldman has been named associate professor of medicine in the division of cardiology, and director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory in the medical center.
