UPB nursing scholarship established

Cheryl and Widad Bazzoui of Bradford have donated $10,000 to establish an endowed scholarship for nursing students at Pitt’s Bradford campus.

The Bazzoui Associate Degree in Nursing Scholarship will be awarded to a student in his or her final year who is pursuing an associate of science degree in nursing and has financial need. The first award will be made in fall 2007.

“I love nursing,” said Cheryl Bazzoui, who earned an associate degree in nursing in 1983 and a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1990, both from Pitt-Bradford, and was a nurse for 20 years in a variety of settings. “I was at a tough time in my life and went through nursing school, and it gave me a chance to turn my life around and support my children.”

She has worked, mostly in the psychiatric setting, at Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Sena-Kean Manor, Bradford Hospital and Dickinson Mental Health Center.
