Change planned in use of CIS dial-up services

Starting Jan. 9, all Computing and Information Services (CIS) dial-up services will require users to log in with a Network Authorization Account username and password. This includes access to the CIS dial-up modem at 621-5954 as well as the regional dial-up lines at Bradford, Greensburg, Johnstown and Titusville.

Users of the CIS dial-up lines will have to enter their Network Authorization Account usernames and passwords one additional time when dialing in to access PittNet services. Users of the serial line Internet protocol number, 624-5616, will see no change in their dial-up procedure since this line already requires an initial log-in.

A Network Authorization Account is what CIS uses to verify valid users of CIS services, including the VMS and UNIX timesharing services, PCs and workstations in the public computing labs and remote dial-up modems.

Currently, connecting with the CIS dial-up number 621-5954 will present a "Local>" prompt. After Jan. 9, a "Username:" prompt will be displayed instead. Anyone who does not have a Network Authorization Account will not be able to connect to CIS services via the dial-up modem lines after Jan. 9.

Faculty and staff members wishing to establish a Network Authorization Account should contact their department's FAIS administrator. Students should bring a valid ID to one of the following computing labs: 1077 Benedum Hall, 1E01 Forbes Quadrangle, G-27 Cathedral of Learning, 230 Lawrence Hall, 112 Hillman Library or C114 Sutherland Hall. Students should ask the consultant on duty to establish the account for them.

Persons who have forgotten their Network Authorization Account usernames and/or passwords should visit the CIS Accounts Office at 110 Engineering Hall during regular business hours.
