Campuses schedule 40th anniversary events

This year, three of Pitt’s regional campuses — Bradford, Greensburg and Titusville — are celebrating the 40th anniversary of their founding. All three campuses admitted their first students in September 1963 as two-year “feeder schools” for the Pittsburgh campus.

Pitt-Bradford, now a four-year institution with 26 baccalaureate degrees and 12 professional programs, originally admitted 143 full-time and 145 part-time students. Currently, the campus has 1,300 students.

Pitt-Greensburg admitted 56 full-time and 200 part-time students in 1963. Today, UPG, also a four-year college, offers 20 baccalaureate programs to 1,900 students.

Pitt-Titusville admitted 50 students originally. UPT is still a two-year school, but offers associate degrees and certificate programs to more than 500 students.

Bradford (www.upb.pitt.edu/40th/web/index.php) and Greensburg (www.pitt.edu/~upg/anniversary.html) have launched anniversary web sites, with timelines of important moments in campus history, events calendars and archival images.

Titusville is constructing an anniversary web site as well.

Pitt-Bradford plans special 40th anniversary showcase sessions on Oct. 4 to coincide with alumni and family weekend, as well as other events in the year-long celebration.

Pitt-Greensburg’s kickoff event for the year of celebration is Sept. 11, with Pitt Chancellor Mark Nordenberg and Provost James Maher expected to attend.

Pitt-Titusville’s formal 40th anniversary celebration event has been set for Sept. 20, with other activities being planned.
