Scouting for Food drive to run through April on Pitt campus

The 1995 Scouting for Food Drive at Pitt, which began on Feb. 1, will run through April 20.

During the semester, various activities have been scheduled to promote awareness of the drive throughout the Pitt community. At these activities, students, faculty and staff will be able to make donations of non-perishable goods, which will be distributed to food banks in southwestern Pennsylvania, primarily Allegheny County.

Cash donations also are being accepted. Employees can make cash contributions either through their department heads or by dropping the donations off at the ticket office on the first floor of the William Pitt Union.

Upcoming events include:

* Feb. 12-25, theatre arts will be asking patrons at performances of "Chemin de Fer" to donate canned goods.

* Feb. 25, at the Providence basketball game at the Fitzgerald Field House, students will receive a raffle ticket for each canned good that they donate.

* March 18, the Pitt Greeks will be soliciting canned goods from Giant Eagle patrons in the East End from noon to 5 p.m.

* March 19-25, Marriott Food Services will be offering a free beverage with a full meal purchase when one non-perishable item is donated at the Schenley Cafe, 7:30 a.m.- close.

* March 31-April 15, theatre arts will be asking patrons to bring donations to performances of the play "Execution of Justice." * March 12-18, all of the Pitt libraries will be offering free "First Search" cards (good for 10-15 searches) in exchange for one can of food.

* March 12-18, the Pitt libraries will be offering a free Vend-A-Card (worth 50 cents plus the library will contribute $1.50 toward the donor's card for photocopying) for one can of food ($2 value).
