Young Women in Science Day scheduled in medical school

Pitt's School of Medicine faculty and administrative staff members are sponsoring the first Young Women in Science Day on April 28.

One hundred seventh grade girls from City of Pittsburgh schools have been invited to attend a one-day workshop as "visiting scientists" at Pitt's School of Medicine. Each visitor will have the opportunity to experience science with a "hands on" emphasis provided by women faculty members in the School of Medicine. Each young woman will receive a School of Medicine certificate (signed by the dean) indicating that she has been a "visiting scientist" for the day. During lunch, the young women will have the opportunity to discuss career aspirations with women graduate students, medical students, faculty members and administrators who have volunteered their time for this endeavor. Funding for this project has been provided by the clinical practice plans, School of Medicine departments and the Office of the Dean.
