The Buhl Foundation has awarded Pitt $1.5 million to establish an endowed chair in the School of Information Sciences (SIS). Named in honor of Buhl Foundation President Doreen Boyce (pictured at a Dec. 2 ceremony announcing the award), the Doreen E. Boyce Chair in Library and Information Science is one of the few library and information science chairs in the nation. It also is the first endowed chair in the country funded by a foundation to honor a professional staff member, as well as being the first Buhl Foundation-endowed chair at Pitt and the first endowed chair in SIS. Boyce, a Pitt alumna, has been president of the Buhl Foundation since 1982. SIS Dean Toni Carbo said a search likely will begin this spring for a scholar to hold the Boyce chair.
