Mellon gives $1 million to Katz

Mellon Bank Corp. has given Pitt $1 million to create Mellon Bank Hall as part of the Katz Graduate School of Business.

The funds will be used to renovate the third floor of the Masonic Temple and create needed space for classrooms, laboratories and informal student gatherings for the Katz School's Center for Executive Education, which is scheduled to relocate from Mervis Hall to the temple in fiscal year 2000.

"We are pleased that Mellon Bank is making this commitment to us," said Frederick W. Winter, dean of Pitt's business school. "We are proud to have such a respected institution linked to the University and the Katz School in this way." In addition to covering the costs associated with renovating classrooms and the temple's third-floor hallway, the gift will help purchase advanced support systems, including computer and communications equipment and software.
