HSLS Website Redesign

The Health Sciences Library System (HSLS) website is the gateway for services and resources frequently used by the Pitt health sciences community. The new website design, set to premiere mid-October, provides quick access to relevant content and features current events, news and instruction.

This video tour introduces you to the new home page of hsls.pitt.edu:

  • Current hours, contact links and remote access information appear at the top of the home page (and every HSLS page). Falk Library is open 108.5 hours per week. Library resources are accessible 24/7 off campus through Pitt’s EZ Proxy Remote Access with Ask a Librarian services for answering your questions remotely.
  • The prominent search bar can be toggled to search resources such as journals and books, e-book full-text search or the cutting-edge bioPreprint database search tool. When you discover a journal or e-book in the HSLS collection, you have full-text access directly from pitt.edu or PittCat for the Health Sciences.
  • Services — These are the most requested services provided by HSLS librarians and staff. You can request a librarian-taught session for your course, register for Molecular Biology software, get help with writing a data management plan and much more.
  • Resources — Find our most popular databases, such as PubMed, UpToDate and ClinicalKey, or browse the e-journal and database A-Z lists.
  • Announcements and class schedules appear on the left, so you can quickly see what is happening at HSLS now or in the near future. Peruse the latest HSLS Update Newsletter or register for a class on infographics.
  • The Featured Links section directs users to exclusive services and resources, such as our special collection of rare and historic books or the NN/LM Regional Medical Library, which provides health information literacy in our community.
  • A special service or feature is highlighted near the footer of the page, which provides quick links to the information you access most often.

Visit us online at hsls.pitt.edu, or look for links to the HSLS Library website through your MyPitt portal. Your questions, requests and feedback are always welcome through Ask a Librarian.

Julia Dahm is the technology services librarian for the Health Sciences Library System.
