Science & Technology Showcase set Oct. 6-8

Pitt’s fourth annual showcase of science and technology, “Science 2004: No Boundaries” is scheduled for Oct. 6 – 8 at various Pittsburgh campus locations. Keynote lectures by five nationally prominent scientists will highlight the scientific symposium. All events are free and open to the public.

Those planning to attend are asked to register at the Science 2004 web site (www.science2004.pitt.edu).

Wednesday, Oct. 6

* 7:30 a.m. – Conference registration/continental breakfast

* 9 a.m. – Spotlight Session I: “Skin and Muscle as Model Systems”

– Spotlight Session II: “The Brain-Machine Interface”

– Spotlight Session III: “The Visual Display of Quantitative Information”

* 10:30 a.m. – Refreshment break and exhibits

* 11 a.m. Plenary Session 1-Dickson Prize Lecture

* Noon- Trade show and pizza lunch * 12:30 p.m.

– Poster Session I * 2 p.m.

– Spotlight Session IV-“Space, The Final Frontier”

– Spotlight Session V- “From Research to Practice: The Congestive Heart Failure Paradigm”

– Spotlight Session VI-“‘Local Traffic’-Intracellular Membrane Traffic”

* 3:30 p.m. – Ice cream social and exhibits

* 4 p.m. – Plenary Session II-NASA Lecture; location?

* 5 p.m. – Science 2004 opening night reception and “first look” technology showcase

Thursday, Oct. 7

* 8 a.m. – Conference registration/continental breakfast

* 9 a.m. – Spotlight Session VII: “Microimaging”

– Spotlight Session VIII: “Immunological Memory and Disease”

– Spotlight Session IX: “Think Small – Science at the Nanoscale”

* 10:30 a.m. – Refreshment break and trade show

* 11 a.m. – Plenary Session III: Mellon Lecture

* Noon – Trade show and hoagie lunch

* 12:30 p.m. – Poster Session II

* 2 p.m. – Spotlight Session X: “Ubiquitin and Regulated Protein Degradation”

– Spotlight Session XI: “Of Mice (And Fish and Flies and Worms) and Men”

– Spotlight Session XII: “Stem Cell Biology”

* 3:30 p.m. Refreshment break and last call for exhibits

* 4 p.m. – Plenary Session IV: Hofmann Lecture

* 5 p.m. – “No Boundaries” barbecue

Friday, Oct. 8
