June 24, 1999

About 20 demonstrators, including Harold Jones and Shandra Williams, marched in front of the residence of Chancellor Mark Nordenberg on June 19, protesting Pitt's refusal to extend health benefits to same-sex domestic partners and the University's challenge to the city gay rights law.

Jones and several other members of the Equal Rights Alliance (ERA) are scheduled to discuss those issues during a private meeting with Nordenberg and trustees chairperson J. Wray Connolly, June 25 at 2 p.m., in 107 Cathedral of Learning. During April's hunger strike by ERA members, Connolly and Nordenberg promised to meet with representatives of the group if it called off the strike — which the ERA did, on April 28.

ERA members plan to discuss the outcome of tomorrow's meeting at a 4:45 p.m. press conference in the William Pitt Union's Kurtzman Room.
