Pharmacy Gets $1 Million Gift

Pitt’s School of Pharmacy has established the CXXV Anniversary Endowment for the purpose of developing, implementing and evaluating the role of pharmacy in improving patients’ health awareness, ability to manage health problems and medication use. The endowment is funded by an anonymous gift of $1 million, given in honor of the school’s 125th anniversary.

“This extremely generous gift comes at a time when the school is launching a major initiative to improve the health of people in communities,” said Patricia Kroboth, dean of the School of Pharmacy. The initiative will build upon pharmacists’ relationship with patients and their unique knowledge to optimize the safety, efficacy and cost of medication therapies for individual patients.

The endowment, administered at the discretion of the pharmacy dean, is expected to strengthen the school’s position as a leader in establishing community pharmacy practice standards and educating pharmacy students about their role in the continuum of health care.

“The School of Pharmacy has developed an innovative program that will improve care of individuals and will promote better communication and coordination among patients, pharmacists, physicians and other health care providers,” said Randy Smith, senior associate dean, School of Pharmacy.
