Prostate cancer research funds available

The Prostate and Urologic Cancer Center of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) has established a program to encourage the development of pilot projects in prostate cancer. This program offers funding and tissue and cell resources as well as guidance in the development of the projects. Support for the pilot projects is available on a competitive basis to Pitt and Carnegie Mellon University researchers. The application process includes submission of a three-page description of the project and a short presentation to the selection committee. Reviewers will evaluate the scientific quality of the application, the translational potential of the work and the potential for future competitive external funding.

Investigators of funded projects must present an update of their work quarterly. It is anticipated that these pilot projects should result in the collection of sufficient preliminary data to result in extramural support of the project. Recipients may be awarded funds up to a total of $20,000 to be applied over a one- or two-year grant period. Applications for funding are due Oct. 15, 1998.
